Our "Strawberry" History:

We purchased our farm in the fall of 2004 from Leonard and Mary Lou Zabel. Mary Lou was the fifth generation to farm the Fisher farm, which was originally purchased in 1852.

The farm has a rich history with James Fisher. James Fisher was elected the Crawford County Sheriff when the county extended up to St. Paul. At one point, the farm had an underground jail which housed the prisoners. Over the years, horses, sheep and award winning hogs were raised on the farm. Leonard and Mary Lou Zabel had a successful hog business for forty years.

When we purchased in 2004, our farm consisted of ten acres with two acres of fertile, tillable land. We had to come up with a crop to raise on a few acres - STRAWBERRIES! This venture would serve two purposes: extra income for our family, and a way to give our five young children, ages 9 to 1 years some “chores” and a strong work ethic. After six years of hoeing weeds, we’re hopeful they have come to realize what hard work is!

Our goal with the strawberry business from the beginning was to raise great tasting, nutritious strawberries and to have a great family atmosphere where kids could be in the patch to pick and “taste test” the berries.
